Dunkirk, NY : Man dies after crashing car, sinking in Lake Erie on Saturday, December 27, 2014

Police say a 64-year-old man has died after his vehicle crashed through a railing on the Dunkirk City Pier and sank in Lake Erie.

City police and the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office were called out to the pier shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday. Underwater rescue team members extricated the Dunkirk man from the submerged vehicle, but he died later at Brooks Memorial Hospital.

The man's name is being withheld until relatives are notified.
