Deleon Springs, FL : One person dies in crash near Fairport Avenue and Mills Road on Sunday, August 7, 2016

The northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 17 are closed between DeLand and DeLeon Springs due to a fatal crash.

The crash happened shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday near Fairport Avenue and Mills Road.

Officials said the crash involved a motorcycle and a car. Both vehicles sustained substantial damage, and the car came to rest on its roof.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene.

One person was flown to a hospital and others were taken by ambulance.

The Florida Highway Patrol is on scene investigating.

Officials could not say how long the northbound lanes would be closed. Motorists should expect detours and delays in the area.
