ALLEGANY, NY : A three-car accident on Route 417 on Friday, October, 27th 2017

A three-car accident Friday afternoon shut down traffic on Route 417 by the Allegany American Legion for approximately an hour.

The Allegany Police Department and New York State Police received a report of the accident at approximately 1:34 p.m. An uninvolved vehicle traveling south on Route 417 stopped to turn left into a residence, causing a 1996 commercial dump truck and a white, 2017 Jeep behind it to slow down.

Trooper Kevin Prince said another vehicle, a blue, 2007 BMW driven by Damian Greaves, 23, of Allegany, allegedly failed to slow down in time and rear-ended the white Jeep, causing the Jeep to rear-end the dump truck. The BMW and Jeep were both towed from the scene.

The dump truck was driven by William Porter, 50, of Salamanca. The Jeep was driven by Thomas Winship, 68, of Little Valley. Winship complained of minor back pain, but declined any on-site treatment or transportation to a hospital, Prince said.
