Two-vehicle crash injured three persons in Shively

A two-vehicle crash in Shively sent three people to the hospital.

The crash happened about 7 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Cane Run Road and Rockaway Drive.

Some good Samaritans saw and heard what happened and stopped to help.

"At first I was like, 'What was that noise?'" said witness Laaundra Owens.

Owens lives just yards from where the crash happened. She was in her kitchen when she heard the collision.

"I've never seen nothing like that before, that noise, I was like, 'I got to go out there,'" said Owens.

Owens and several others nearby rushed to the rescue.

"There was a lot of cars out here, a lot of help out here and I was, we just all worked together and got her out the car. I went and got her a blanket because she was really cold," said Owens. "I thought it was way worse than what it was. We had people out here praying. I thought it was way worse. It sounded like two semi trucks hit -- it was loud."

A black SUV landed on its side, the smaller vehicle's front end was smashed all the way up to the windshield. Owens said a woman and her niece had to be rescued from the SUV.

"We had to pull them out of the window so they was holding the car and me and a nurse got her out. Her foot was stuck and had to shift her over a bit, but we got her out the window," said Owens.

Police said all three victims were alert and talking when they were transported to the hospital.

The seriousness of their injuries is not yet known.

Police haven't said what caused the crash.
