A Maryland woman died when a car backed into her Sunday, according to Prince George’s County police.
Lorraine Lawrence, 57, of District Heights was the passenger in an SUV that had gotten into a crash with another car at County Road and Marlboro Pike shortly before 6:30?p.m., police said.
The drivers involved stopped in the 6000?block of Druid Place, where Lawrence stepped out of the SUV and stood behind the other car, police said.
During the stop, the car backed up and hit Lawrence, who was taken to a hospital and was pronounced dead, police said.
The driver of the car that struck Lawrence stayed on the scene and called 911, police said.
Detectives are still investigating the circumstances leading up to the crash and why the driver backed into Lawrence.
