Florence, AL : Lauderdale woman killed in a one-car crash near Athens Monday morning, August 15, 2016

A Lauderdale County woman was killed Monday morning in a one-car accident near Athens, troopers said.

Trooper Curtis Summerville, public information officer with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Huntsville Trooper Post, said Tina Brackley, 44, of Anderson, was killed when the car she was a passenger in crashed.

Summererville said Brackley was a passenger in a 2005 Nissan Xterra that was driven by Gary Ronald Graham, 41, of Athens.

Reports indicate Brackley was not wearing her seat belt and was ejected when the car left the roadway and overturned. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Graham, who was not wearing a seat belt, was also injured. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Summerville said the crash occurred at 3 a.m. Monday on Seven Mile Post Road seven miles west of Athens.

He said although the crash is still under investigation, preliminary investigation indicates speed was a factor.
