SENECA, SC : 2 sports cars involved in crash with forklift; teen airlifted to hospital on Saturday, 27th March 2021

A juvenile was airlifted to Greenville Memorial and two drivers were taken to hospitals with minor injuries after a crash Friday afternoon on Wells Highway in Oconee County, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Corporal Matthew Southern said that the wreck happened Friday at 4:15 p.m. as a forklift was being offloaded from a truck to be used in a construction area.

A construction company had a flagger there to help with traffic as the forklift was being offloaded, Southern said.

According to Southern, two Camaros were traveling east on Wells Highway, a 2015 Camaro in the left lane and a 2012 Camaro in the right lane. The 2015 Camaro "took evasive action to the right" after seeing the forklift and struck a fire hydrant and guide wire to a utility pole, Southern said. The 2012 Camaro then struck the forks of the forklift, damaging the car's roof.

The driver of the 2015 Camaro was taken by EMS to Oconee Memorial Hospital, and the driver of the 2012 Camaro went by personal vehicle to Greenville Memorial, Southern said. A 15-year-old riding in the 2012 Camaro was airlifted to Greenville Memorial, according to the Seneca Fire Department.

MAIT responded to the scene Friday afternoon and is investigating, Southern said, but the roadway is now clear.
