Hilo, HI : Two in stolen car killed in head-on crash near Hilo on Thursday, August 4, 2016

Two people in a stolen car died in a head-on crash near Hilo on Thursday, police said.

Officers on the scene said the stolen vehicle was speeding when it crossed the center line and collided with an oncoming car, spinning out of control and landing on its roof.

The driver and the passenger of the stolen car were both killed, police say. The two -- a man and a woman -- were pronounced dead at the scene.

A woman in the other car was taken to the Hilo Medical Center with multiple fractures.

The incident happened around 1:45 p.m. Thursday on the Mohouli Extension, forcing police to close the road between Kukuau and Komohana Streets.

The road has reopened.
