Kansas City,KS : Westbound Interstate 70 reopens after serious motorcycle crash on July, Friday 14th 2017

Two people sustained serious injuries early Friday when the motorcycle they were riding on veered off Interstate 70 near the Jackson Avenue curve and crashed into a utility pole.

The incident happened around 6:40 a.m. The westbound motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control and went off the side of the roadway, said Kansas City police Sgt. Kevin Murray, with the city’s traffic investigations unit.

The driver and a passenger were thrown off the motorcycle. They were taken to nearby hospitals with serious injuries. Their conditions were not immediately available.

The westbound lanes of Interstate 70 heading into downtown Kansas City were shut down Friday morning for more than an hour after the crash.

The highway was fully reopened around 8 a.m. The closure caused a major backup for commuters heading into downtown Kansas City.
