Victoria, TX : A Victoria resident died after an auto-pedestrian crash on April, Sunday 23rd 2017

A Victoria resident died after an auto-pedestrian crash on Sunday at 11:30 p.m. in the 900 block of East Rio Grande Street.

A preliminary investigation revealed Encarnacion Munoz, 67, of Victoria, was crossing the road midway, said Lt. Eline Moya, spokeswoman for the Victoria Police Department.

The male was struck by a Ford passenger vehicle traveling east, she said.

“He was transported to Citizens Medical Center by EMS where he died a short time later,” Moya said.

Police identified the driver of the Ford as 20-year-old Montel Chappell, of Victoria.

Moya said Chappell stopped after hitting Munoz and was cooperative with police.

Neither alcohol nor speed were factors, she said.

Editor's note: The story has been updated to correct that the driver did stop after the crash. For full coverage, please see Tuesday's Advocate.
