HANSON, MA : Two people were seriously injured in a crash on Route 14 in Hanson on Tuesday, October, 24th 2017

Two people were seriously injured in a crash on Route 14 in Hanson Tuesday morning.

The two-car crash happened on Maquan Street, near Crescent Street, shortly after 9 a.m.

A 65-year-old Hanson woman was flown by medical helicopter to a Boston hospital. A 21-year-old man was taken by ambulance to South Shore Hospital, Hanson Fire Lt. Keith Wilson said. They were both expected to survive their injuries, Hanson Police Lt. Michael Casey said.

Both vehicles sustained heavy front-end damage. A black sedan came to rest off of the road and a green Toyota sedan stopped partially off the road nearby.

Hydraulic extrication tools were used to get both victims out of the cars, Wilson said. The drivers were the only occupants in both cars.

The Hanson woman was put into an ambulance and driven about a half-mile away to the Indian Head School, where the medical helicopter picked her up.

The road was closed for about an hour while police, fire and medical personnel responded.

The cause of the crash and whether any charges or citations would be filed was still under investigation as of Tuesday afternoon.
