One person hospitalized after Hwy 49 accident in Gulfport Mississippi

A vehicle accident that occurred Wednesday night around 9 p.m. in Gulfport was the result of a woman allegedly fleeing the scene of a traffic stop.According to Gulfport Police Chief Leonard Papania, officers conducted a traffic stop on Marquetsha Danyell Lindsey on 34th Street where it was discovered that she did not have a driver's license or proof of insurance.Investigators said Lindsey fled the scene which led to a vehicle pursuit. Lindsey was traveling north on U.S. 49 when she made a sharp turn at the intersection of Russell Boulevard and struck another vehicle driven by Christina Thomas of Gulfport.
Authorities said Gulfport Fire Department immediately responded to the scene to extract Thomas from her vehicle. Lindsey and Thomas were both transported to area hospitals with severe injuries.
Papania said Lindsey was cited for numerous traffic violations. The investigation is still ongoing.
