BROOKHAVEN, MS : Brookhaven community mourns loss of high school student killed in crash driving to prom on April, saturday 15th 2017

The Brookhaven community is mourning the loss of a high school student killed in a crash on her way to prom.

The Lincoln County Deputy Medical Examiner confirms 18-year-old Brittney Hill was driving one of the cars involved in a two-car collision that happened Friday night on Zetus Road.

“Eighteen-years-old. I don't think that was enough time for me and Brittney. This is hard, this is hard,” said Shanika Hill.

Tears flowed as Brittney Hill's mother Shanika Hill and her family reflected on how excited the Brookhaven High student was as she left home and drove to prom Friday.

“I never ever expected this to happen not a mile from home," Hill said. "She gets dressed to go pick up her date from prom and get hit head on. She was so beautiful and happy and we spent the entire day together.”

This mom admits she feels helpless at times and heartbroken now that her oldest girl is dead.

“I don't know what and I don't know how to do it," Hill said. "It is killing me.”

The sudden loss has also left the community shocked and sadden, especially the Brookhaven Lady Panthers softball team where many say Brittney was a rising star and just an all-around great person.

“Brittney is outgoing, outspoken, funny, happy and had a strong personality,” said Coach Mandy Vinson.

“We started out as teammates," said student Jada Henderson. "But we became more than that because of her realness.”

They say Brittney may be gone, but she will never be forgotten their hearts.

“I love you, I love you," Hill said. "I will never ever stop loving you. I am so sorry this has happened to you.”

The 45-year-old unidentified man, driving the second car involved in the wreck, was airlifted to Jackson for his injuries. His condition is not known at this time.
