Two people were killed and one person was hospitalized in a rollover crash Saturday night, according to the Reno Police Department.

On Saturday night at about 7:53 p.m., Reno Police, Reno Fire Department and REMSA responded to a vehicle crash in the area of Mill Street and South Rock Boulevard, near the Reno-Tahoe International Airport.

When they arrived, they located a vehicle on its roof in a nearby field. The vehicle was occupied by a male and female who were both pronounced dead at the scene.

A second vehicle was at the scene and was occupied by a man, who was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Reno Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team conducted the investigation due to the extent of the injuries.

Investigators said they found the striking vehicle was traveling northbound on Rock Boulevard when it ran a red light, hitting a vehicle heading eastbound on Mill Street. The vehicle that was struck then rolled onto its roof and came to rest in a nearby field.

The driver traveling in the striking vehicle showed signs of being under the influence of alcohol, police said. He was expected to be booked into the Washoe County Jail for two counts of DUI causing death once he is released from the hospital.

The names of those involved were not immediately released.
