Teenager who died Thursday morning in a collision on Vaughn Frontage Road

A teenager who died Thursday morning in a collision on Vaughn Frontage Road was a C.M. Russell High School student, district officials said.

Montana Highway Patrol Trooper David Baggs said the female driver of a blue Honda was traveling east toward Great Falls when she lost control on the icy road and slid into a westbound pickup truck.

The driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of her injuries, Baggs said. The driver of the pickup refused medical attention.

Grief counselors have been made available to CMR students and staff, school officials said.

“Anything like this has a huge impact on our community here,” C.M. Russell Principal Dick Kloppel said.

“It’s a tragedy,” he added. “Our prayers and thoughts are with the family.”

Superintendent Tammy Lacey said the district extended “our deepest condolences to the student’s family.”

CMR and Great Falls High School students will wear purple at Friday’s basketball game in honor of the student.

The student’s name has not been released pending the notification of family members.
