Goodhue County, MN : Two die in crash near Miesville on Friday afternoon, January 27, 2017

The drivers in a two car accident in Goodhue County died Friday afternoon.

The accident happened 3 p.m. at the intersection of US Highway 61 and Minnesota Highway 316, west of Red Wing and near Miesville, according to the Minnesota Highway Patrol.

The drivers of both vehicles - Betty Lou Ramthun, 73, of Goodhue and Maxine Marie Jellum, 76, of Morristown - were killed. Highway Patrol expects to be able to release more information about them by this afternoon.

A Chrysler Town and County van, driven by the Morristown woman, was westbound on US Highway 61. A Ford Expedition, driven by the Goodhue woman, was traveling south on Minnesota Highway 316. The two vehicles collided, which caused the Expedition to roll over, according to the accident report.

Both drivers were killed, but Rmathun's passenger - Daniel Raymond Ramthun, 72, of Goodhue - was taken to the hospital for treatment of what law enforcement described as apperant non-life threatening injuries.
