Wilmington, DE : Child and three adults injured in a crash in Glasgow early Friday morning, August 19, 2016

A crash early Friday morning in Glasgow injured a child and three adults, an official said.

The crash happened just after 2 a.m. in the northbound lanes of Del. 896 at the intersection of Pulaski Highway (US 40), said Cpl. Jeffrey Hale, a spokesperson with the Delaware State Police Department.

The crash, which involved a tractor trailer and a pickup truck, caused the pickup truck to catch fire, said Sgt. Abigail Haas, a spokeswoman with New Castle County Paramedics.

A six-year-old boy in the pickup truck, who was rescued by a bystander, was rushed to the Nemours Alfred I DuPont Hospital for Children and admitted in critical condition with cuts, burns and a head injury, Haas said.

A man and a woman inside the pickup truck were taken to Christiana Hospital for evaluation, Haas said.

The driver of the pickup truck, described as a 33-year-old man, was taken to Christiana Hospital and is in serious but stable condition with a head injury, Haas said.

The person who rescued the child from the vehicle suffered minor burns and did not wish to be taken to the hospital, Haas said.

The crash has northbound Del. 896 closed at Pulaski Highway. Traffic is being detoured onto Porter Road and then onto northbound Wrangle Hill (Del. 72), Hale said.

Details on how the crash occurred were not readily available.
