Tuscaloosa, AL : 1 killed, 8 injured in fiery crash on Interstate 59 near Tuscaloosa on Monday, August 8, 2016

One person was killed and eight injured in Monday's crash on Interstate 59 near Tuscaloosa.

The four-vehicle crash happened at 10:55 a.m. when a 2015 Freightliner struck an SUV and caught fire. The tractor-trailer driver was killed, but the victim's identity has not yet been released pending confirmation by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.

Senior Trooper Reginal King said the crash happened in the southbound lanes of I-59. The Freightliner struck the Dodge Durango driven by 52-year-old Marry Huggins of Birmingham.

During the crash, cargo fell from another Freightliner and struck a Kia Van driven by 47-year-old Cheryl White of Virginia. White, her six passengers and Huggins were all taken to the hospital. The extent of their injuries wasn't immediately available.

King said the preliminary investigation indicates that speed may have been a factor.
