One person was killed and three others were injured Monday morning in a fiery two-vehicle crash on the Tri-State Tollway (Interstate 294) in the southwest suburbs, police said.

The crash happened about 4:30 a.m. in the northbound lanes at mile marker 14.5 near 115th Street in the Alsip-Worth area, according to Illinois State Police.A semi-truck struck a passenger car "for an unknown reason," state police said in a news release. The semi overturned after striking the car. The passenger car became engulfed in flames, police said.

The driver of the car was unable to get out of the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The person's name has not been released.

Two passengers in the car were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The truck driver was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, police said.

Some lanes were closed on the Tri-State while the crash was investigated and crews cleaned up the wreckage.

According to WGN-TV, travel times on on the northbound Tri-State from I-80 to I-55 were more than an hour.
