BAINBRIDGE TOWNSHIP, MI : 2 injured in head-on crash near the intersection of Napier Avenue and Arent Road in Bainbridge Township on Wednesday, 9th January 2019

Two people were hospitalized after a head-on crash in rural Berrien County Wednesday.

It happened around 5:30 p.m. near the intersection of Napier Avenue and Arent Road in Bainbridge Township, east of Benton Harbor.

The Berrien County Sheriff's Office says a car crossed the centerline and hit a pickup truck head-on. The truck then hit a utility pole, breaking the pole in half.

The driver of the car had to be freed from his vehicle.

Both drivers were taken to Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph to be treated. Their conditions were not known later Wednesday.

The sheriff's office said the crash was still under investigation, but that alcohol was believed to have been a factor.

The road was shut down for hours as crews worked to clean up and fix the broken utility pole.
