RINDGE, NH : 19-year-old dies of injuries suffered in fiery Rindge crash on Tuesday, 22nd January 2019

A teenager seriously injured in a fiery crash in Rindge last month has died, officials confirmed Tuesday.

Police said they learned on Jan. that Nina Colasanto, 19, of New Ipswich, had succumbed to the injuries she suffered in the crash on Perry Road in Rindge.Police said a 17-year-old from Rindge was driving a 2017 Tesla Model X when he crashed into a tree. The car split in two and burst into flames.

Colasanto was taken to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester with life-threatening injuries.

The driver and a 17-year-old passenger from New Ipswich were hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. At the time, both were expected to be OK.

Rindge firefighters remained at the crash scene hours later due to possible hazardous material coming from the car.

“Due to the specific make and model of the car, it did pose some hazardous issues that the fire departments (had) been dealing with on that, due to electronic batteries in it,” Rindge Police Chief Dan Anair said at the time.

"It's a Tesla, so it's got batteries that explode, and that was going off the whole time. We were probably not even 10 feet away from the car," local resident John Weir, who helped in the response, said at the time. "Like I say, you do what you have to do."

The crash remains under investigation.
