Repair shop owner killed while directing truck

Authorities are investigating the death of an auto repair shop owner who was killed in an accident in the eastern Alabama town of Phenix City.Russell County Coroner Arthur Sumbry Jr. said 33-year-old Jeremy Swift was killed Thursday when a pickup truck backed over him as he tried to give the driver directions from behind the vehicle.Swift was taken to The Medical Center in nearby Columbus, Ga., where a doctor pronounced him dead at 9:18 a.m.The coroner told the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer that Swift was in a car when he saw the truck backing up, and he got out to run behind the truck and give directions.
Sumbry said that such accidents are reminders that drivers and those giving them directions should keep each other in sight.
