Wadena, MN : 3-vehicle crash leaves 2 injured Monday on Hwy 71 on Monday, 28th January 2019

Two men were injured following a three-vehicle crash Monday on Hwy 71 north of Wadena.

A Ford Expedition driven by Derek W. Youngs, Wadena, was headed north on Hwy 71 and stopped to take a left turn near Willis Rubber. Youngs was rear-ended by a Chevy Impala, driven by David K. Strausser, Pequot Lakes, who was also travelling north on Hwy 71. The Chevy Impala was then struck by a Ford F-350, driven by Aaron J. Smestad, Fordville, N.D., which was travelling south on Hwy 71. Emergency crews including Tri-County ambulance, Wadena Fire Department, Wadena Police Department and Minnesota State Patrol responded to the scene at 4:17 p.m.

Smestad and his passenger were not injured. Strausser and Youngs both received non-life threatening injuries according to the Minnesota State Patrol. They were both taken by ambulance to Tri-County Health Care in Wadena.

The state patrol noted all parties were wearing seat belts and no alcohol was involved.
