State police say a 63-year-old Rayville woman died when she failed to stop at a stop sign and collided head-on with an 18-wheeler. Trooper Michael Reichardt says Shirley Nobles was traveling south on Percy Higgins Road Thursday when she failed to stop at the intersection of La. Highway 134. He says Nobles made a wide right turn into the opposing lane of travel on Highway 134 into the path of an 18-wheeler. Reichardt says the truck driver took evasive action but was unable to avoid a head-on collision. Nobles was taken by air ambulance to Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria where she was pronounced dead. The crash remains under investigation.
