MYERSVILLE, MD : A Smithsburg man died early Friday in a tractor-trailer crash on Friday, August 11, 2017

A Smithsburg man died early Friday in a tractor-trailer crash on westbound Interstate 70 in Frederick County, according to Maryland State Police.

Lionel Lee Moser Sr., 51, was identified by police as the driver of a tractor-trailer that crashed and caught fire about 3:20 a.m. on I-70 at Mount Tabor Road.

The crash site is west of Myersville, near the westbound South Mountain Welcome Center.

Arriving troopers found a Peterbilt tractor-trailer and the surrounding woods on fire. After emergency crews put out the flames, Moser's body was found, police said in a news release.

Police said it was unclear why the truck left the highway.

No other occupants or witnesses have been identified.
