Carlsbad, NM : Carlsbad man killed in crash on Old Cavern Highway on Monday, January, 8th 2018

A Carlsbad man was killed in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Old Cavern Highway and Derrick Road on Monday.

State Police said Ralph Rider, 55, was traveling south on Old Cavern Highway in a 2002 Toyota sedan when he "veered" onto the northbound lane and collided with a semi-truck on the side.

According to the New Mexico State Police, law enforcement were called to the scene at about noon.

Rider sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator.

The driver of the semi was not injured, State Police said.

State Police are currently investigating the crash.
