Easton, NY : 75-year-old man killed in truck accident on Route 40 near the Rensselaer County line on Wednesday morning, August 3, 2016

A 75-year-old man was killed Wednesday morning in a motor vehicle accident on Route 40 in Easton near the Rensselaer County line.

The accident happened just after 9:30 a.m.

The man was traveling south in a Ford Ranger truck when he attempted to make a left turn into Beecroft’s sporting goods store, according to Trooper David Mosher.

The man went into the path of a Nissan pickup truck heading north.

The driver of the Ford truck was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Troy, where he was pronounced dead. His name is not being released pending notification of relatives.

Alcohol or drugs were not factors in the crash. Mosher said the likely cause was driver inattention.

The 60-year-old driver of the other vehicle and his 84-year-old passenger were transported to Albany Medical Center, according to Mosher.

State Police were assisted at the scene by Easton/Greenwich EMS and Easton and Greenwich fire departments.

Both vehicles were declared total losses.

One lane of Route 40 was closed, with alternating traffic, while the scene was investigated and cleared. Both lanes reopened about 1:30 p.m.
