Victorville, CA : Man airlifted after crash on I-15 Wednesday afternoon, April 5, 2017

Authorities said a man suffered major injuries following a crash on Interstate 15 Wednesday afternoon.

The crash, which involved a blue Jaguar sedan and a tractor-trailer, occurred on southbound I-15 around 2:45 p.m. Wednesday. The driver of the Jaguar slammed into the back of the flatbed, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Chris Carter, and suffered head trauma from the impact.

“Just a few inches over, and his head would have been smashed in,” Carter said.

Carter said both vehicles were headed south on I-15 in the No. 3 lane approaching the Stoddard Wells Road off-ramp near Bell Mountain. The driver of the Jaguar was behind the truck at a “high rate of speed, according to a witness,” Carter said, and attempted to pass the truck by entering the No. 2 lane.

“The driver didn’t get over to the No. 2 lane in time and hit the back of the trailer,” Carter said.

The driver of the truck felt the impact and immediately pulled over to the right shoulder. He was uninjured, Carter said, but the driver of the Jaguar suffered major injuries and was airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for treatment. No further details on his condition were available Wednesday.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Victorville CHP office.
