Four people suffered injuries ranging from minor to life-threatening in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 495 southbound around 1:20 p.m. Thursday.

State police said a Freightliner tractor trailer traveling in the center lane moved into the left lane and struck the rear passenger side of a Ford Expedition. The Ford rolled over into the median.

A medical helicopter transported a 45-year-old Billerica woman, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, to Massachusetts General Hospital for life-threatening injuries.

The back seat passengers, an 8- and 9-year-old, were taken to UMass Memorial Hospital for serious injuries. The driver, a 53-year-old man from Billerica, sustained minor injuries and was also taken to UMass Memorial Hospital.
A 38-year-old man from Brook, Conn. was driving the Freightliner and sustained no injuries.

State police, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, and Littleton EMS, Police and Fire departments responded to the crash.

The accident remains under investigation. The State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section and Crime Scene Services Section are all assisting in the investigation.

This area of I-495 has been the scene of major crashes this summer.

Last month, an East Boston man died in a four-vehicle crash at the intersection of I-495 and Route 2A, resulting in hours of traffic backups on the highway and side roads.
Then a day later, a car traveling northbound rolled over and caught fire, sending both occupants to area hospitals. Also, a 61-year-old male cancer patient traveling southbound lost consciousness and hit the guardrail; he was transported to a local hospital.
