St. Louis, MO : Man accused of running from a fatal St. Louis crash on Wednesday, December 31, 2014

Police have released a man arrested after fleeing the scene of a fatal crash New Year's Eve in St. Louis.

Xander Wohlstadter, 20 of the of the 2600 block of Chouteau Avenue, was killed about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday when the vehicle he was driving was struck by a another than ran a red light at Chouteau and Jefferson avenues, police said. Wohlstadter was driving westbound on Chouteau when a vehicle heading north on Jefferson ran the red light and slammed into his vehicle.

Emma Casey, 16, who was a passenger in Wohlstadter's vehicle was taken to St. Louis University Hospital. She was listed in critical condition there Friday. Casey and Wohlstadter were coworkers at Shaw's Coffee in the city's Hill neighborhood.

The impact of the accident pushed Wohlstadter's vehicle into another that was stopped at the traffic light. A passenger in that third vehicle, a woman, 62, was injured and listed in stable condition.

The northbound driver, 26, jumped out of his vehicle and ran, police said. He ran south on Jefferson and was arrested a short time later in the rear of Chouteau, police said. Prosecutors took the case under advisement and did not immediately charge the man; he was released about 10 p.m. Thursday as police continue to investigate.

Police have not released his identity.
