Sunbury, PA : Ashland woman dies in car crash on Route 125 in Coal Township on Tuesday, August 2, 2016

A 53-year-old Ashland woman died Tuesday after she lost control of the vehicle she was driving on Route 125 and slammed into a tree, Coal Township police said.

Sandra D. Jones, of 903 High Road, Ashland, was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:04 p.m. by Northumberland County Chief Deputy Coroner James R. Gotlob.

Her accidental death was attributed to "multiple force trauma," added James F. Kelley, county coroner.

The time of the accident, according to Coal Township police, was 1:15 p.m.

The one-vehicle crash occurred as Jones' Toyota was traveling south on Route 125 in Coal Township.

For unknown reasons, she crossed into the northbound lane and the vehicle left the road between Burnside and the entrance to the Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area.

Once off the road, the truck traveled 64 feet before it hit a tree head on. Jones was wearing a seat belt, Kelley said.

The victim was the only occupant in the truck.
