A driver was pulled from a burning car in the woods early Friday morning after a crash where speed was believed to be a factor, according to Dighton Police.

The crash occurred about 2 a.m. on Somerset Avenue, near the area of Torres Insurance.

Upon arrival, Dighton Patrolman James Duddy saw that the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames and that the driver was struggling to get away from the burning car, which had come to a rest in a swampy, thick vegetative area, according to a post on social media by Dighton Police.

“Through a persistent effort, he, along with Dighton Fire Department paramedics and Sgt. Shawn Cronin, were able to pull the 40-year-old Assonet man out of danger,” the post reads.
