Dewey Beach, DE : Two injured in a hit-and-run crash on Route 1 near Clayton Street on Thursday, August 18, 2016

Two people were injured Aug. 18 during a hit-and-run crash on Route 1 in Dewey Beach.

A 29-year-old Lewes man was driving a moped with a 28-year-old Dover man as passenger at 1 a.m. northbound on Route 1 near Clayton Street when they were hit, said Sgt. Clifford Dempsey of the Dewey Beach Police Department.

The moped was in the outside lane when a dark-colored SUV hit the moped from behind, ejecting the men from the moped. The SUV then ran over the moped and continued northbound without stopping.

The two men were taken to Beebe Healthcare for their injuries. The driver was released with minor injuries. The passenger was transferred to the Christiana Medical Center where he is being treated for a head injury. He is listed in serious condition. Their names have not been released.
