Charlotte, NC : Vehicles crash into power poles, one catches fire near uptown Charlotte on Tuesday, August 16, 2016

A road near uptown Charlotte was closed Tuesday after a multi-vehicle accident that involved a car fire.

The crash happened just before 2:30 p.m. on E. 4th Street near the John Belk Freeway. Officials have not released many details, but firefighters confirmed that power lines were knocked down and that a section of the roadway was being closed.

From WBTV's Sky3, flames could be seen coming from one vehicle while firefighters worked to put it out. At least one power line was down along with the traffic lights at the intersection.

Another vehicle was in the roadway and appeared to be heavily damaged. Police had taped off the intersection around the scene.

Paramedics could also be seen assisting at least one person who was on a stretcher. That person's name has not been released, but Medic said the victim suffered very serious injuries. No other injuries were reported.

Investigators have not said what may have led to the crash or if any charges are being filed.

Drivers should avoid the area if possible.
