Suspect in high-speed chase did not carjack vehicle

The Memphis Police Department revealed Thursday that the suspect involved in a high-speed chase in Cordova did not carjack a vehicle as initially assumed by authorities. Investigators found the suspect, 54-year-old Paul Vlisak, rented the vehicle that he was occupying and the vehicle was not carjacked. Preliminary reports said the pursuit began after the suspect stole the Cadillac from a man in the parking lot of the Red Robin restaurant on Germantown Parkway. This is after the suspect was being chased on foot by an off-duty officer from a YMCA where several lockers were burglarized.Officers followed the suspect to Dexter Road and Chimney Rock Boulevard where the suspect struck three MPD squad cars.Paul Vlisak was charged with Aggravated Assault, Burglary, DUI, and Evading Arrest.Action News 5 at 10 p.m. will have the latest.Copyright 2013 WMC-TV.
