Wellford, S.C : Cyclist killed in Spartanburg County collision on Wednesday August 31, 2016

Dispatchers say a cyclist died after being struck by a car in Spartanburg County Wednesday evening.

Around 6:45 p.m., troopers responded to the scene of a crash on Highway 101 near the town of Woodruff, say reports.

Officials say the crash happened when the driver of a Toyota was traveling south and struck the back of the cyclist's bicycle.

According to reports, cyclist Joshua Edward Duncan of Orleans Drive in Wellford was transported to the hospital where he later died from injuries sustained in the incident. Duncan was reportedly wearing a helmet when the crash occurred.

Joshua's mother, Beverly Pack, said she can't imagine what her and her family's life will be like now that Joshua has passed.

“We all went to the hospital. When the doctors came in, I’m telling you the last thing I was expecting was for them to tell me he had died," said Pack. "I couldn’t believe it when they said that, I thought it was some mistake.”

The grieving mother said her son Joshua loved cycling and used social media to post about his rides. She said it was something he enjoyed that took his life.

"Joshua was only 31 years old. He had only been married for a year and a half," said Pack. "He had a one year old daughter. It’s just so tragic that someone so young has lost their life so soon without completing their life. ”

Pack said Joshua's passing has devastated her family and that they will all love and miss him.
