Binghamton, N.Y : 1 dead, 2 injured in Greene crash on Tuesday, January 31, 2017

Route 12 was closed for several hours Tuesday following a two-car crash in Greene, killing one person.

The Chenango County Sheriff's Office received a report just before 10 a.m. of the collision, according to a news release.

Deputies said two cars, one traveling north and the other traveling south, collided when the southbound vehicle, operated by Kyle Skidmore, 33, of Binghamton, crossed the center line.

The northbound vehicle was operated by Danny Frayer, 64, of Oxford. The passenger in his vehicle, Thomas Whittaker, 54, of Greene, was pronounced dead at the scene. Whittaker was not wearing a seat belt, deputies said.

Frayer and Skidmore were transported to UHS Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City. Skidmore suffered serious internal injuries, according to reports. Frayer was treated for minor injuries. Both were wearing seat belts.

Deputies determined Skidmore was operating at an unsafe speed for road conditions and failed to keep right.

The Village of Greene Police Department, Greene Fire Department and EMS, along with the Chenango County Sheriff's Office Crash Reconstruction Team, Geneganslet Fire Department and Brisben Fire Department were among those who assisted at the scene.

Traffic on Route 12 was shut down until 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
