Des Moines, IA : Six people were hurt in a two-vehicle accident on Wednesday, July 5, 2017

Six people were hurt in a two-vehicle accident near the Fort Dodge Regional Airport Wednesday afternoon, according to Sgt. Tony Walter, of the Webster County Sheriff’s Department.

The accident happened at 2:53 p.m. at the intersection of 170th Street and Nelson Avenue.

According to Walter, a Toyota Camry driven by Rigo Berto Lara, 30, of Sanford, North Carolina, was westbound on 170th Street.

Walter said witnesses reported that Lara did not stop at the stop sign at Nelson Avenue and simply went right through.

A southbound Chevrolet Trailblazer, driven by Nicholas Sanford, of Fort Dodge, struck the front of the Camry, causing the car to go off the road and end up in the west ditch.Lara, Julia Santiago, Maria Santiago, Maria Garcia, and Miguel Lara, 3, were all transported to UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Sanford was later taken to Trinity by personal vehicle, Walter reported. Sanford is also believed to have non-life-threatening injuries.

The Fort Dodge Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, Fort Dodge Fire Department and Badger Fire Department also responded to the scene.
