Rochester, NY : Pedestrian killed by motorcycle on Lake Avenue on Monday, August 22, 2016

Police have identified the 56-year-old pedestrian killed Monday in a collision with a motorcyclist on Lake Avenue in Rochester as city resident Candido Colon.

At 11:45 a.m. Monday, officers responded to the 300 block of Lake Avenue for the report of a pedestrian struck.

The 26-year-old male motorcyclist was headed south bound on Lake Avenue when the pedestrian stepped out in front of him to cross, police say. Police have identified the motorcycle operator as Justin Brady, 26. He is a Monroe County resident, police say.

"The main factor here is the pedestrian was crossing in the middle of the block illegally into traffic," Rochester Police Lt. Frank DiPrimo said on Monday. "The motorcyclist didn't expect him to be stepping out into traffic."

Colon was pronounced dead at the scene. Brady was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital for non life-threatening injuries.

According to witnesses, DiPrimo said it appeared that at one point in time, the bike, the pedestrian and the motorcyclist were all airborne. However, it wasn't clear how far they had been thrown.

"The high-rises got several apartment units and with stores right across the street, people choose not to cross at the light ... We have had several accidents here," DiPrimo said.

Police said on Tuesday morning that the investigation continues.
