BELGRADE, ME : Driver cited for fiery crash with oil tanker near the Route 135 intersection in the town of Belgrade on Thursday, 3rd January 2019

Police have cited a driver with failure to yield in connection to a crash in Maine that caused a tanker truck loaded with 9,500 gallons of heating oil to burst into flames.

The crash happened around 9 a.m. Wednesday near the Route 135 intersection in the town of Belgrade.

Police say 74-year-old Robert Engdahl, of Winthrop, had stopped at a stop sign and then drove in front of the truck driven by 54-year-old Mark Tuttle.

The collision caused the truck to overturn and catch fire.

Both vehicles were destroyed in the blaze, and officials shut down Route 27.

Steve McCausland from the Maine Department of Public Safety says both drivers were hospitalized for minor injuries.

Police cited Engdahl after the crash.
