Los Angeles County, CA : One injured in two-car crash involving downed highway sign on Sunday, August 7, 2016

One person suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital Sunday following a two-car crash sparked as the result of a highway sign that ended up in the northbound lanes of Highway 14, officials with the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.

The injured person was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle, a fire official with the Fire Station #73 in Newhall said.

The crash happened shortly after 3 p.m. Sunday in the northbound lanes of Highway 14 near the Newhall Avenue exit, Fire Department Supervisor Cheryl Sims said.

The crash involved two vehicles and a highway sign, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The CHP received reports of a highway sign in the Number 3 lane - the lane next to the slow lane - and posted an alert about the traffic hazard a couple of minutes before the traffic collision.

The sign was described, by one firefighter, as one of the “smaller” highway signs used to designate exits, in this case “Exit 2”.
