NORTHAMPTON, MA : Springfield bicyclist seriously injured in Northampton crash on Wednesday, 29th January, 2020

A 22-year-old bicyclist was seriously injured Wednesday night on Pleasant Street in a collision involving a parked car and a passing vehicle, according to police,

The bicyclist, a resident of Northampton, was taken by ambulance to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield for reported head, face and shoulder injuries, said Police Chief Jody Kasper. The bicyclist’s name was not released to the press, and Kasper said she had not been briefed on the person’s gender.The bicyclist had not been wearing a helmet, she said.

Police were called to the area of 196 Pleasant St., in front of Yes Computers, for a report of a bicyclist possibly stuck by a car at 7:25 p.m.

Officers at the scene determined there had been some kind of impact between the bicyclist, a parked car and a southbound car. Kasper said police have not yet determined if the bicyclist was hit by the passing car, or drove into the parked car on the side of the road and then spilled into traffic.

The driver of the car remained at the scene for police, and no charges have been filed, Kasper said.

The road was reopened at 9:45 p.m.

The accident is being investigated by the department’s Accident Reconstruction Team and the Crime Scene Services Unit. She said officers are out at the scene Thursday morning as part of the investigation.
