Point Mugu, CA : Child killed, one injured in rollover crash on Highway 1 near Point Mugu on Wednesday night, August 13, 2014

A rollover vehicle crash killed a child Wednesday night on Highway 1 near Point Mugu, according to authorities. The wreck on the highway near Las Posas Road was reported at 7:08 p.m. and involved one vehicle hit a tree and overturned, according to the California Highway Patrol. The late-model Ford Mustang appeared to have come to rest against a masonry wall. Crews at the scene several miles south of Camarillo said at least three patients were taken to hospitals and one person was dead at the scene. One of the injured people was reported to be in critical condition. An officer at the scene said an 8- to 10-year-old child was killed. The child was related to the female driver, who was arrested on suspicion of alcohol violations, officials said. Crime scene tape started going up just before 8:10 p.m., and official sources at the scene said the case was being considered a possible homicide. Lane closures were expected on the highway for several hours. The patrol and Ventura County Fire Department responded to the wreck, with multiple ambulances, rescue crews and an air squad involved in the operation, which involved extrication.
