Lakeland, FL : Two people died in a two-vehicle crash in central Florida on Sunday afternoon, August 7, 2016

Two people died in a two-vehicle crash in heavy rain that closed West Memorial Boulevard between Brunnell Parkway and North Lincoln Avenue for 5½ hours Sunday afternoon.

The main east-west road through that part of Lakeland was closed as traffic homicide investigators worked the crash scene on the Memorial Boulevard overpass and the debris scattered across the roadway was cleaned up, said Sgt. Gary Gross, the Lakeland Police Department spokesman.

Killed in the crash were Alexas A. Moore, 20, of 1610 Harbor Way, Bartow, who was driving a 2000 red Chevrolet Cavalier, and a passenger in the rear seat of a 2011 white Jeep Cherokee, Blannie Denmark, 86, of 5658 Grandview Blvd., Lakeland.

The other victims were taken to Lakeland Regional Heath Medical Center: Armani T. Evans, 22, of 1225 Buena Drive, Lakeland, who was a trauma alert; and the Jeep driver, Charles R. Harrelson, 68, of 5658 Grandview Blvd., Lakeland, who was also a trauma alert, and his wife, Rita Harrelson, 71, same address, who was in the Jeep's front passenger seat. She is in critical condition. The relationship between the Harrelsons and Denmark is unknown, Gross said.

After a preliminary investigation, Gross said, police think the Cavalier was being driven west on Memorial Boulevard during a heavy rain storm about 12:20 p.m. when the driver lost control just past North Walker Avenue. A witness told police a gray vehicle pulled out in front of the Cavalier from North Walker, which may have caused the driver to lose control. The speed limit in that area is 45 mph.
