A Grand Haven-area man pulled his Jeep into the path of an Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department car on 144th Avenue on Friday afternoon, police said.

Deputy Keith Biros was transporting a subject in custody to the Ottawa County Jail and driving south on 144th Avenue. He said the 2001 Jeep pulled out of Wintergreen Drive in the River Haven community to go north on 144th when the two cars collided at 4:36 p.m.

Biros said he was unable to avoid the collision.

After the crash, the Jeep was stopped on 144th Avenue and the police cruiser came to rest in the southwest yard of River Haven, said Sgt. Brian Buter of the Sheriff’s Department.

Biros and the prisoner he was transporting were both taken to an area hospital for precautionary checks. Both were expected to be released Friday night, Buter said.
