NORTH FORT MYERS, FL : Police chase ends with crash in North Fort Myers on Monday, October, 9th 2017

A police chase that started in Fort Myers ended in a crash Monday morning in North Fort Myers, causing multiple traffic delays.

The crash at Bayshore Road and North Tamiami Trail happened at about 8:30 a.m., and resulted in at least one injury.

Fort Myers Police responded to a stabbing in the 1900 block of Palm Ave. The suspect stabbed the victim in the eye and both people sat inside a car.

When officers arrived, the driver took off. The high-speed chase ended when Audrey Hill, 38, hit a van on Bayshore Road. But police said Hill jumped out of the car and ran away. She was caught at a shopping center on Tamiami Trail.

The condition of the victim is unknown.

“I was coming over the bridge. Two police officers had passed me on Evans and then this black Toyota come blowing by me about 100, hundred-plus at least, with pieces flapping off the front fender. And he blew through the red light at Pondella and then continued up this way and it was like 10 officers in pursuit," said witness Jeff Schaller.

Traffic was backed up as a result with delays east bound on Bayshore, westbound on Bayshore and Pine Island Road, and north bound on Tamiami Trail.
