A Sumrall man died in a Lamar County accident Sunday afternoon.

According to Public Information Officer Brent Barfield, around 3:50 p.m. Roger M. Shirley of Baton Rouge was driving down Hwy 98 just east of 589 when his vehicle left the road.

Barfield said the passenger was ejected from the vehicle.

Both Shirley and the passenger were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The passenger died from his injuries at the hospital, according to Barfield.

MHP Troop J responded to the scene.
