SANTA ROSA COUNTY, FL : Ladder in roadway leads to four-vehicle wreck on I-10 on Tuesday, 20th August 2019

A Holt man was injured Tuesday in a four-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 at mile marker 26.

The accident happened just after 6 a.m.

Gregg Clark Miller of Holt, 64, was traveling west on I-10 in the outside lane in a Toyota Tundra, according to a press release from the Florida Highway Patrol. He was driving behind a semi truck and a Honda, according to the Florida Highway Patrol media release.

A Hyundai was traveling next to them in the inside lane.

Miller struck a ladder that was lying in the outside lane, sending part of the ladder into the Hyundai’s path, causing that driver to brake suddenly to avoid it.

The semi truck driver then swerved into the inside lane to avoid hitting the Honda in front of him. The front bumper of the semi collided with the rear of the Hyundai, the release said.

Miller, who had started the chain reaction by hitting the ladder, failed to slow down to avoid hitting the semi. The front bumper of his Tundra collided with the right side gas tank of the semi.

The crash resulted in partial blockage of the roadway until about 8 a.m.

Miller was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital with minor injuries. He faces careless driving charges.
