Seattle, WA : One lane of Alaskan Way Viaduct closed by guardrail crash on Tuesday morning, September 9, 2014

One lane of Seattle's Alaskan Way Viaduct is closed Tuesday morning after a car crashed into a guardrail, officials said. City transportation officials say the driver was speeding in the southbound lanes of Highway 99 and hit the barrier around midnight, knocking out two large chunks of the guardrail just south of the Battery Street Tunnel. The lane closure is necessary so that crews can replace the missing section. Steel brackets that hold the guardrail together are being removed so that new sections can be put in place. There was no structural damage to the viaduct itself, officials said. Crews expect to have the guardrail fixed and the lane back open by around noon.
