Rochester, NY : Cyclist injured in South Avenue crash early Friday, August 19, 2016

A 20-year-old Rochester man was seriously injured when he rode into the side of a moving car on South Avenue early Friday.

The man was riding north when he struck the side of a car turning onto Bellvue Drive from South Avenue just after midnight, said Rochester Police Capt. Gary Moxley. The cyclist suffered serious injuries that were not considered life threatening and was taken to Highland Hospital, then moved to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment. His name was not released.

Moxley said the cyclist did not have lights on his bike, as required by state law. The motorist did not see the cyclist on the roadway before the collision, he said.

No charges were filed in connection with the crash.

In an unrelated one-car crash on Friday, a 30-year-old Irondequoit man suffered minor injuries when he lost control of his car on Kings Highway North in Durand Eastman Park just before 4 a.m. The car overturned and the driver left the vehicle but was located nearby. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of a motor-vehicle accident, Moxley said.
